Being married to a carpenter translates to living in a perpetual state of remodel.
Being an author with a vivid imagination helps Suzan cope with the perpetual remodel.
Suzan has been writing since childhood. She self-published her first novel, Laiden's Daughter, in December of 2011. It started thusly:
I wanted to give my mom a kindle for her birthday. I thought it would be really cool if when when she opened it, the first book she'd see would be mine. I shared this idea with my husband. Now, my husband is nothing short of a research genius/force-to-be-reckoned-with. He did the research about self-publishing and didn't quite share all the information with me. He told me that I could just put the 'book' on the kindle, I had to publish it.
So I published it December thinking it would be cool if I sold ten copies. By the end of February, 2012 Laiden's Daughter had reached number 3 on Amazon's Top 100 Best Sellers List. To say the least, I was stunned. That month I sold over 8,000 copies of my first book. Wow. It has been the most amazing experience of my life.
I released my second book, Findley's Lass, Book Two of The Clan MacDougall Series in September 2012. In October of 2012 I was able to give up my day job to write full time. I haven't looked back. I released Wee William's Woman in March of 2013. All three of my books are on Amazon's Top 100 Best Sellers List and I am one of Amazon's Top 100 Best Selling Authors.
I didn't set out to sell 10,000 copies a month or to get on any best sellers lists. I am blessed beyond all human comprehension and am enjoying every moment!
That is so wonderful to share this part of yourself with your fans, of which I am one! Did you always know you wanted to write historical romances? Did you ever write poetry? I used to think I wanted to write then found I was more of a reader since I couldn't finish any story in my head or on paper, lol. You write so well it seems like you must have been thinking of these characters in your books for a long time. I've certainly loved them because you brought them to life. Also I'd like to thank you for also keeping your books affordable. Many authors who have success then charge so much more for future books that folks like me can't afford them on a fixed income (I'm home bound & disabled). Thank you & keep up the awesome work! It's appreciated. Dee W.
ReplyDeleteHello Dee! For some reason, I just now found your post! I am so sorry!
DeleteI am glad you like my books. No, I had always written mystery novels. I actually didn't read historical romance until I discovered Laurin Wittig and Carmen Caine in 2010. I have been writing for years, but these characters in my Clan MacDougall and Clan Graham series are relatively new to me.
If you follow me on Facebook, I have been known to give away a few free books. :D
Thank you for stopping by!
Hugs,
Suzan
Hi there, Suzan,
ReplyDeleteI have just finished an exhausting round of chemo - 8 sessions of about 4 hours each attached to a drip, followed by exhaustion and nausea - and i just had to share with you that your wonderful books helped me through it! It has been such a help to lose myself in the wonderful Highland world you created. I fell in love with each of your characters (though I have a particular soft spot for Wee William;)) Thank you for your books - they have helped me through a difficult time xxx
Taryn, I don't know why, but I just NOW got this message! Please, email me: suzan@suzantisdale.com. Thank you for your kind words and I will keep you in my prayers.
DeleteOk, Sis, we need a like button! Adding Taryn to my pray list! Keep on writing!
