Angus McKenna Hangs At Dawn....

It is often quite odd or even hilarious when and how my book ideas come to me. Sometimes, I'll be riding along in the car, or watching TV, or writing another story, or in the shower....we  just never know when that idea is going to pop into our heads.

So the other night, I was trying to sleep and an idea for Rowan's Lady kept popping into my brain. I couldn't fight it, so I decided to just let my mind wander and see where it ended up. That can be quite dangerous sometimes!!

Eventually, I fell asleep, knowing full well that the 'idea' my brain wanted to incorporate into Rowan's Lady was going to be difficult. But again, the voices in my head were quite insistent. Sometimes, I have to fight them until one of us wins. Usually, the voices win.

I woke up, with that same idea running around. The idea, while fun and intriguing, was going to be a stretch if I forced it into the book. A big stretch. Like trying to jump over a chasm with a skateboard and a bed sheet. I just didn't see how it would work.

Then, as I was tending to my morning ablutions, WHAM! There it was...one simple little sentence that took me by surprise and I almost forgot where I was and what I was doing! (Try to explain to the EMT how you broke your leg whilst sitting on the porcelain throne and voices screaming at you!)

Angus hangs at dawn.

Yes, our beloved chief of the Clan MacDougall, Angus McKenna hangs at dawn. I broke out in a cold sweat, unsure if it was the idea or another hot flash. How? Why did the voices insist on hanging Angus? What in the hell could he have done to deserve to be hanged by his neck until dead????

I sat still, waiting for the voices to explain themselves. Angus is a traitor...ordered put to death for crimes of treason, for plotting against the king.

WHAT??? NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

The voices raced on, so fast in fact, that I wondered if I hadn't finally had that break down my mother used to warn me about. I ran downstairs and sat in front of my lap top and started writing. Writing, writing, writing....

I realized, as I wrote, that this story was going to do a few things. One, it will tie in the idea that the voices are insistent must go into Rowan's Lady. Two, it will help tell a little more of Nial & Bree's relationship. Three, it will help with the eight year gap between Wee William's Woman and Rowan's Lady.

So I'm going to run with it. I must write this story. No ifs ands or buts about it. I must. I have to. The voices would never forgive me if I didn't.

At this point, I think it is a little novella or a short story. I won't know for certain for another couple of weeks.

In any event, I think my readers, those who have read the first three stories, are really going to like it! It will be more exciting and faster paced than the first three. It will be filled with intrigue, spies, plots, rescues, and yes, a wee bit of romance! ;o) But it won't be like the first three books in that we take one character and focus on him and write his romance. This one is going to be just a little different.

No worries in regard to Rowan's Lady! I'm still looking at a September/October release date. ;o) But trust me, when you read the as yet untitled book, and then Rowan's Lady, why I'm doing what I'm doing will make perfectly good sense.

This will be a stand alone book, one that won't require reading all the other books in order to make sense. But, when you put them all together, it will answer some questions left behind by Wee William's Woman and will set the stage a bit better for Rowan's Lady.

I love you all!!! Thank you for your support and kind words, and for sending the new subscribers my way! ;o)

Have a great day, enjoy a peaceful Sunday, and remember, I appreciate each and every one of you!

Suzan

Ask and Ye Shall Receive!

Well ladies and gentlemen...you asked for it.

Repeatedly. ;o)

I am so happy to announce that coming in June or July, to Amazon, iTunes, and Audible, Wee William's Woman will be available in audio books!!!

No, I don't have a set release date yet as I've just hired my voice actor. He has a very sexy Scottish brogue! ;o)
No, I don't have a price yet, as the audio people will set that up for me. It is based on the length (hours) of the book.

We are so excited to be doing this! I do believe you will really like this man's voice. He did a little sample of Laiden's for us and it made me cry! (Yes, I cry when I'm happy, sad, angry, frustrated. I'm a crier.)

I will post updates here and in the upcoming newsletter as soon as I have them. Don't forget to sign up for the My newsletter. Sign up is near the top of the page here, on the right hand side, between the little Hunky Guy in A Kilt Contest and the cover of Laiden's Daughter.

Hopefully, by the end of the year, all three books will be available in audio format. We're going to work our way backward. I know, I know, that sounds weird but I have my reasons. ;o)

Again, I thank you all for your continued support and kind words. You are all just wonderful, beautiful people and I adore each and every one of you!

Hugs,
Suzan

I Am Humbled and Amazed

So I snuggled in with my Kindle tonight, settling in to read Holly Bush's new book. I thought I would check my stats before getting lost for a few hours.  I rarely check my author rank, but I happened to do that tonight.

This is what I found:

At first I thought my Kindle must be acting up, so I pulled out my phone. It said the same thing! Thinking it might be wrong, I pulled out my lap top. There it was. Again.

I can't quit crying -- happy tears of course. ;o) This is just beyond anything I could ever have imagined!

So I called my husband in...I had to explain to him who Diana Gabaldon and Courtney Milan were! He thought something was wrong because I could barely talk.

This is right up there with giving birth to my beautiful children, marrying Kevin, and the births of my perfect grandbabies. I am amazed. Stunned. Elated. Humbled.

I know that I have said this before, but it is true. I could not have done any of this without you, my beautiful, amazing, awesome, sweet readers! THANK YOU! My heart is swelling with love for you all right now. ;o)

I do not know if sleep will be easy tonight simply because this is so very exciting!

Thank you all,

Humbly yours,
Suzan

Rowan's Lady...the beginning

Good morning lovely readers! I hope the sun is shining for you today! I am so ready for spring, aren't you?

As you know, I'll be releasing Rowan's Lady sometime this fall. Sooner, of course, if the voices don't leave me. ;o)

I want to let you know that Rowan's Lady is going to be the start of a new series, the Clan Graham Series. Don't panic! We will be seeing some of your favorites from Clan MacDougall in Rowan's story. I might even go back at some point and write more stories from our favorite characters from Clan MacDougall.

If you remember the meeting of the seven clans from Wee William's Woman, what I am doing will make perfectly good sense. ;o) At least it makes sense in my head, lol, which is rather frightening. Usually, I live in a perpetual state of confusion. ;o)

I am planning on writing series for each of the clans present at that meeting. The seven clans are: The MacDougalls (of course!) then we have McKee, McDunnah, Lindsay, Randolph, Carruthers, and Graham.

I would like to write at least one book for each of these clans. I know that I will have at least two for Clan Graham -- Rowan's Lady & Frederick's Queen.  I also have Caelen's Love planned for the McDunnah Clan Series.

There are so many great stories that I want to write for our heroes. Black Richard will have a story, but I'm not sure if it will be tucked under Clan MacDougall or somewhere else. I'd also like to write about Nial and Bree.

If I wrote 3 stories for each clan, that would make 21 books! lol I'm not saying I will write 21, but wouldn't that be fun?

I love hearing from my readers. You all brighten my day and make me want to write more and more. ;o) Thank you all so very much. You don't know it, but you do inspire me.

Updates From the Writing Cave

Good morning my beautiful readers! ;o) One of these days I hope to be able to say, "Updates from my beautiful home library!"instead of the cave. ;o)

I do hope you are enjoying your St. Patrick's Day! My mother is Irish. Second generation born from Irish/Scot immigrants. Today is what we fondly refer to as her Christmas. ;o)

I've added a new page to the site. It is titled "My Favorite Authors".  This is a list of authors whose book(s) have touched me on a very deep and inspiring level. A few of them have become very good and dear friends of mine. But please know, they made this list before I even knew them. ;o) No nepotism, no buying your way to the top, lol. You can find the new page by clicking here or  at the top of the home page.

I would also like to share with you our latest stats for Wee William's Woman. Please keep in mind that these stats are fluid, updated on an hourly basis by the Amazon people. But as of 8:45 this morning, Wee William's Woman was ranked thusly:

What do those numbers mean? Where it says Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #414. That means that out of all the Kindle books at Amazon -- over 2 million -- Our Wee William's Woman is ranked #414! That is pretty darned good for an indie author!!

Amazon puts our books into categories. Because of my genre, my books are found in Historical Fiction, Historical Romance, and Family Sagas. I am so tickled to be in the #10 slot for Historical Fiction!! ;o) Again, for an independently published author, this is pretty cool! It is based on sales and reviews and clicks and heaven only knows what else!

I am right behind Ken Follett!! That just blows me away. I could not have done this without all of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! ;o)

I will keep you posted if we go any higher than this. ;o) You can also follow my updates at my Facebook Fan Page.

I'm also on Twitter. (I am a huge fan of Twitter!)  twitter@suzantisdale

Again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Have a beautiful day!

Hugs,
Suzan

Beautiful Life....

Since giving up the day job last October, I've become accustomed to 'sleeping in'. For me, sleeping in means sleeping until 7:30, maybe even 8!  This is a big deal when one considers that I used to be up at 3:30 or 4:00 every morning in order to write before leaving for work.

Yesterday, my daughter and grandson surprised us with a visit. Last evening, I remembered why I didn't write when my kids were little. It is next to impossible while they are awake! It is like trying to put pantyhose on over bluejeans. ;o)

This morning, I'm letting my daughter sleep in. I'm in my office with my two and a half year old grandson. I'm at my computer while he plays with legos, and anything else he can get his hands on! He's rattling on and on about how he needs to 'fick' it. He loves tools and fixing things. Last night, his Papa Kevin actually let him use a small drill to unscrew and then re-screw screws into the drywall on the outside walls of my office. I don't know who had more fun, but I do know who was most proud.

In the quiet of this morning, with little Carter playing at my feet, it hit me again just how blessed I am. I have four really great kids, three perfect grandkids (I married young the first time -ha!) I have a wonderful husband, a roof over our heads, food in our bellies. I have great parents, rotten yet wonderful brothers, and a beautiful extended family. Good friends, great readers, and good neighbors. I feel like I'm living in utopia half the time. (The other half resembles a Three Stooges movie, but that is only when I'm alone with husband and son!)

I have three books flying up the charts at Amazon. All three of them are on the Top 100 Best Sellers List in Historical Fiction and Historical Romance. Wee William's Woman has taken off like a rocket. I have readers contacting me to let me know they've just started reading it, are in the middle, or have just finished it. I love hearing from you! ;o)

I am blessed with such a beautiful life. Ten years ago, I never would have thought any of this would  be possible. I certainly couldn't have imagined such a peaceful life. I owe that to my husband. He has this very unique way of keeping me calm yet letting me be excited and happy. I call it sedated exuberance. ;o)

God has blessed me beyond what I think I deserve. My mother-in-law says not to question it but to simply be thankful. ;o) I am. Very thankful!

I also know that I would not be where I am at this moment if it weren't for all of the wonderful readers out there who have taken such a strong liking to the Clan MacDougall. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times and I'll keep saying it: I owe it all to you. You really have helped make my dreams come true. I am forever and eternally in your debt. Thank you.

My grandson is now in the  hands of his uncle, which means I need to step away from the computer and see what the heck they are up too! It has gotten far too quiet up stairs! ;o)

Have a beautiful day and my God bless each and every one of you!

Hugs and gratitude,
Suzan

Question of The Day

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well after this last blizzard hit. I am thankful to say that we survived this one with no power outages. I hope the same can be said for all of you. ;o)

As you all know, presently, I write historical fiction/historical romance. I have at least four more stories in my current Clan MacDougall series. I have a series of Regency novels that I would also like to write in addition to a couple of modern day romances and a modern day mystery series.

My question is this: Do you read genres other than historical romance/historical fiction? I'll pretty much read anything and I am curious as to what you, my beautiful readers, read. What other genres do you like? If I wrote a mystery series, would you be inclined to read it? What about Regency? Westerns? Modern or contemporary romance?

I thank you in advance for participating!

Hugs,
Suzan

Steam vs. Clean...Posing a Question

Hello beautiful ladies! I have a question that I'd like to run by all of you today and your input is very important.

Many of my readers like the fact that my books are clean. I also have many readers (including my 71 year old mother and my 71 year old aunt for crying out loud! lol) who say they're not steamy enough. (The question isn't about which you prefer, clean or steamy, we all know it is a personal preference and I think its evenly divided among the two lol.)

So I had a thought I wanted to run by all of you...what if I had two versions of the same book available? One with steam, one without. Everything about the book would be the same, but I could leave out the 'steam' for those readers who just don't like it. Kind of like a 'directors' cut they do for movies, lol.

I can guarantee that everything about each book would be identical, except for the steamy love scenes. It would be a very simple process to do considering my writing style. ;o) I think the trick to a really good story is that it can stand on its own two legs with or without the steam. I would make certain that each book was clearly labeled so that you would know which version you are getting.

I'd like to know what all of you would think about that? Would you like that option? I'm just curious to know what you'd think about this.

I thank you in advance for your thoughts on this!
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Suzan

T Minus Four Hours....

Today is my last day at my 'day job'! I cannot express enough "Thank You's" to my readers!!! None of this would be possible without you.

It also would not be possible were it not for Amazon and it's KDP program. Because of all of you, my dreams of becoming a full time author are now coming to fruition.

Starting at 12:01 p.m. today, when asked what I do for a living, I will be able to say (with a big SMILE!!) that I am an author. You have no idea just how awesome this moment in my life is. Its right up there with giving birth to my children and marrying the love of my life, Kevin.

So thank you, thank you, thank you! I owe each of you an eternal debt of gratitude and thanks.

With love and thanks,

Suzan
